“Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen.
He named it  EBENEZER saying, ‘Thus far has the Lord helped us.’ ”

1 Samuel 7:1

A Look at the Past in Gratitude  — a stone set up

May 24, 1975  - A significant day for more than 50 of us who gathered in a bungalow in SS3, Petaling Jaya, to witness the Lord constitute SSMC.

For the next 30 years, little did we anticipate that the Lord had such great plans for us as a church. He guided and helped us as we struggled and, quite often, stumbled along. He taught us to be a family. We gradually learnt to worship Him more freely.

He taught us His Word and the need to be doers rather than just hearers. We learnt and experienced the need and power of prayer as a family. He gradually increased our numbers and “pushed” us to establish two other churches. He gave us so much and inspired us to increase in giving. Our eyes were opened to the many opportunities He initiated for service and ministry. He taught us the need to always trust in Him, even when we found the going tough. We had to learn the difficult way many times, as He wanted to refine and purify us.

Thank you, Lord, for Your faithfulness and Your willingness to take the risk with us.

A Look at the Present with Purpose — a stone being set up

April 30, 1994 - A new location and a new vision.

We would never have dreamt of being located in Kampung Sungai Kayu Ara. By any account, it would have been the last place to locate a church — the stench, the rubbish and the lack of basic amenities, to name some of the “hindrances.”

But the Lord wanted us to be here; He made it possible; He provided the money for it; He opened the door. He cleared the spiritual atmosphere — who were we to question Him? “You are here to bless the people of this kampung.” It was hard work learning how to bless a community that was so different from what we were used to. He got roads paved — inroads were made into the families. The street lights were set up — this kampung would no longer be in darkness. How true that when the Lord opens the door no one can shut it.

We experienced opposition, but we kept to the Lord’s call — to bless the people in the kampung. He kept to His promise of protecting us from every attack from the evil one. “From KSKA to Closure” was His call to us to fulfil the Great Commission.

We will continue this task with purpose. What a privilege and honour to be used  by God.

A Look into the Future with Hope - a stone to be set up

May 22, 2005 — Missions Fest and our 30th Anniversary Celebrations.

I sense the Lord is making a fresh call to the SS family to do greater things for Him and participate in the closure of the age.

What an amazing 30 years we’ve had of God’s faithfulness! Ebenezer  - thus far …,  there is more to come. Let us be prepared for the difficulties, drastic changes, tough times, challenges, as well as the blessings ahead of us. He will extend; He will enlarge His work for us. Are we ready?

As one body, with one voice, and in one spirit, we ask of You, “Lord, speak to us; Lord, direct us; Lord, move us on even further. We wait with hope for You to lead us. Lord, we want to know You more. Make us strong so that we can do great exploits for You until You come again. Maranatha!”
